About Our Vessel, Elijah

The following information, is a brief outline of the relevant safety features, provided for your enjoyment and safety at sea on our Vessel Elijah!

Why is the vessel named "Elijah"?

It's about Fathers & their children really. The very last paragraph of the Old Testament speaks about the prophet "Elijah" when it says in Malachi 4, 5. "But before the great and terrible day of the lord comes, I will send you the prophet Elijah. He will bring fathers & children together again; otherwise I would have to come and destroy your country".

A lot of Shann's career as a fly fishing guide, freelance fishing author & fisheries consultant, has taken him away from his family and especially his children, for sometimes lengthy  periods. Weekends & holidays are when most of us - want to spend 'quality time' with our kids, however these are usually times when a fishing guide is busiest - fishing with guests. As a result, dad's in this industry are very often not available to spend that all too brief and valuable  'quality time' with their own families while they are growing up in their formative years .

With the coming of age of Shann's eldest Son Kelvin, - the purchase of the vessel "Elijah" has been timed to coincide with Kelvin joining his dad in the Charter fishing industry, so that they can spend quality time together at sea as partners in Flywest Fishing Charters, as a way of getting back together again, to fish.

In the opinion of both Kelvin & Shann - it was a heaven sent 'miracle' they ever won the Govt. tender to buy the vessel at a price they could afford, and so the choice of the vessel name "Elijah" just seemed to fit the rationale and means of acquisition of the vessel!!.

Hopefully, God will be as kind to all who entrust their lives at sea to this vessel, as he was to the original prophet "Elijah"!.
With regard to the safety of your life while aboard the vessel "Elijah", it is wise to take a few moments to read & familiarize yourself with this brief summary of all the safety features designed and provided on the vessel, to ensure you return home safe to loved ones, regardless of what vagaries of weather and sea conditions mother nature might throw at us!
